This book is the second in the "Typographische Bibliothek" series, edited by Klaus Detjen, has been published from 1993 to 2005 by Steidl Verlag in Göttingen. According to critic Silvia Werfel, the book series "aims to offer the medium of typography a new and effective forum" in order to "re-interest readers in unfamiliar or long-forgotten forms of design". The bibliophilically designed volumes of the series each contain a variant of the text in reading typography as well as an artistic-interpretative part in staged typography. In addition to an epilogue, each volume also contains detailed notes by Detjen on the respective typographic design in the appendix.
