The present translation follows the text and, thanks to Mr. Liam Miller, the typographical lay-out of the 1914 edition of the poem. A few turns of expression are due to Professor Cohn, who, very kindly, read the whole translation in manuscript, and was very encouraging to the translator. This is not, naturally, to claim Professor Cohn’s approval of every part of the version in its present form.
